Silent treatment
Experience the silent movie The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog with music provided by renowned organist Dorothy Jean Papadakos. The 1927 British silent thriller film, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, stars Marie Ault, Arthur Chesney, June Tripp, Malcolm Keen and Ivor Novello. Based on the 1913 novel The Lodger by Marie Belloc Lowndes and the play Who Is He? co-written by Belloc Lowndes, the film’s plot concerns a mysterious man whose odd behavior raises suspicions that he may be a serial killer who has been targeting young, blonde women across London. The film was Hitchcock’s first thriller and established his reputation as a director. The screening starts at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 200 Island Ave., in Reno. Make holiday-themed arts and crafts and get in the spirit of the season this weekend at Arts for All Nevada’s annual Holiday Family Arts Festival. The event offers eight Creative Art Stations for visitors to explore different art techniques; a holiday selfie station; and free books for every child in attendance courtesy of Spread the Word Nevada-Northern. Native roots
In observation of Native American Heritage Month, Sawabemuhano, the city of Reno and the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada present the second annual Native Heritage Celebration in downtown Reno. The festival opens with a proclamation and blessing, followed by drum and dancing performances, a basket-weaving demo with Loretta Burden, a panel talk with Stacey Montooth and Donna Cossette and storytelling by Ralph Burns. There will also be food vendors and a Native-made marketplace at the event, which takes place from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 10, at Locomotion Plaza, 301 N. Virginia St. Admission is free. We salute our veterans
The city of Reno honors all veterans and those currently serving at its annual Veterans Day Parade featuring members of local service groups, the Nevada National Guard, Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) programs from area high schools, university and high school marching bands, honor guards and other groups representing the various branches of the United States armed forces in a procession through downtown Reno. The theme for this year’s parade is “A Legacy of Loyalty and Service.” The parade begins at 11:11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 11, at 76 S. Golden anniversary
Local artist Cindy Gunn celebrates 50 Years of Art! The exhibition will feature paintings, drawings, photographs and ceramics she has created over the past five decades. British actor, comedian and activist Eddie Izzard brings The Remix Tour Live: The First 35 Years to the Biggest Little City. The Remix is a chance for Eddie, who was inspired by her audiences, to remix and re-imagine some of her own favorite, personal comedy highlights from past shows. Known for thought-provoking, intelligent and surreal stand-up comedy, some of her most celebrated shows include Unrepeatable, Definite Article, Glorious and Dress to Kill, which earned her a New York Drama Desk Award and two Emmy Awards. The polyglot comedian now tours her shows in four languages—English, French, German and Spanish—in countries all over the world.
